2 Days of Diving Into One of the Most Unique Underwater Environments on Earth

Day 1: Silfra & Davíðsgjá — Dive Between Continents

Your Iceland adventure begins with two unforgettable freshwater dives inside the world-famous fissure system at Thingvellir.

Silfra is considered one of the most unique dive sites on the planet.

Formed by the slow separation of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, Silfra is a crack in the Earth filled with crystal-clear glacial water that has filtered naturally through underground lava rock for decades. The result is an underwater environment with visibility exceeding 100 meters (328 feet) and scenery found nowhere else on Earth.

Floating through Silfra feels less like diving and more like flying.

This is your opportunity to experience the rare thrill of swimming between two continents in some of the clearest water on the planet.

Your second dive of the day brings you to Davíðsgjá, another fissure in Lake Thingvallavatn and a favorite among local Icelandic divers.

Less famous but equally memorable, Davíðsgjá offers an entirely different atmosphere. After an easy shoreline entry and a gentle swim through water often warmer than Silfra, divers descend into a long, narrow underwater canyon reaching depths up to 21 meters (69 feet).

Visibility can be spectacular here and, because the upper section of the fissure lies beneath the open waters of the lake, it’s not uncommon for curious trout to join divers during the experience.

Day 2: Ocean Diving & Kleifarvatn — Dive the Edge of a Volcanic World

Your second dive day explores Iceland’s dramatic underwater contrasts with two additional dives including the legendary Lake Kleifarvatn.

Covering nearly eight square kilometers and reaching depths of up to 90 meters, Kleifarvatn is the largest lake on the Reykjanes Peninsula and sits directly atop the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, where continents continue to slowly drift apart.

Surrounded by volcanic mountains, colorful hills, and unusual lava formations, the landscape feels untouched and ancient—as though you’ve stepped into the territory of trolls and elves.

But the real magic lies beneath the surface.

Kleifarvatn sits in a geothermally active zone and features unusual underwater hot springs. Near shore, divers can explore a crater where warm water and gases rise from below. As bubbles escape through the lake floor, nearby rocks subtly vibrate—creating an underwater sensation unlike anything most divers have ever experienced.

This is diving at the intersection of geology, adventure, and wonder.

SCUBA Program Includes:
• Guided diving with Dive Instructor Wade Labrecque
• 2 days of diving
• 2 dives per day (4 total dives)

**Diver Requirements & Equipment Information**

Because of Iceland’s cold-water conditions, all SCUBA participants must be Dry Suit Certified prior to travel.

Snorkeling options are available at select sites and do not require dry suit certification.

Equipment rentals are available for an additional per-day fee. Rental options and pricing will be provided prior to departure.
