| SCUBA DIVER cost: $325.00 |
| This is your starting point to discovering the wonders of the underwater world. This certification is your passport to SCUBA diving, and to enjoying the thrills of weightlessness underwater; to exploring the beauty of an underwater tropical paradise; or to exploring the sunken shipwrecks of the Vermont Underwater Historic Preserve. The SCUBA DIVER certification enables you to buy or rent equipment, to go on dive charters, or to participate in any SCUBA activity. The minimum age for this class is 12 years. The cost of the class is $325 and includes a text book, decompression tables, dive log book and the use of all the equipment throughout the class, with the exception of mask, fins, and snorkel. We do offer our students a 10% discount off these items if they need to be purchased. We offer many different scheduling options for this course.
Special Note - If you are planning a tropical vacation this winter and would like to dive, but are not yet certified, take the classroom and pool work with us and complete your open water dives at your destination. We will assist you in finding an instructor to complete your dives. If you choose this option to get certified, the cost of the course is $50 less, or $275.00. The cost of the open water dives will vary depending upon the location and instructor. |

| NITROX cost: $150.00 |
| What the heck is Nitrox anyway? Many people assume that nitrox is a deep diving gas for professional divers only. Many assume that it takes months of extensive training to use Nitrox safely, and that it involves a lot of expensive specialty equipment. All of these assumptions are incorrect. Nitrox is primarily used in shallower depths above 130 feet and it has been used by thousands of recreational divers for almost 15 years. In most applications the equipment can be standard SCUBA equipment without modification. Nitrox is basically air with a higher percentage of oxygen and lower percentage of nitrogen. Thus when you use Nitrox you have less nitrogen in your tissues and your decompression exposure is reduced. You can stay down longer, and with a much greater safety margin than with standard air. Another benefit of Nitrox is a reduced level of fatigue after dives. Because of the higher partial pressure of oxygen in Nitrox, most divers report having much more energy after a Nitrox dive. Our upcoming Nitrox classes involve five to six hours of classroom theory, but no dives are required. This enables us to teach Nitrox during the winter months, which makes great sense. Almost all live-aboard dive vessels and most popular tropical dive destinations offer nitrox to their clients. Most dive vacations involve multiple days of repetitive dives. This type of diving activity poses the greatest risk of decompression sickness and nitrox minimizes this risk. Start using nitrox today. We are offering a NITROX specialty class for $150.00. The course includes: text, DSAT table, 2 NITROX tables, and 2 sets of NITROX identification stickers for dive tanks. |

This year's course will be divided into two components with lectures on Wednesday evenings immediately before and following the weekend of diving. New this year, we invite non-divers to attend the lectures! Both lectures will be held at the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum. We'll begin with an overview of archaeology and it's tools and techniques. We'll use some of the museum's Maritime Research Institute's projects as case studies. The follow-up lecture will include an in depth look at the world of artifact conservation in the museum's lab. Participants will have an opportunity to work on artifacts.
On the weekend we'll do four dives, applying archaeological technique to an historic site comprised of no fewer than five shipwrecks. The shallow water site will allow adequate bottom-time for underwater measuring, drawing, videography, and photography.
Prerequisites: Basic Scuba Diver Certification. A minimum of four logged dives in cold water (Lake Champlain) preferable.
Equipment requirements: All basic scuba equipment is to be provided by the student. Equipment rentals are available at half price through WDC. A full equipment checklist will be issued at the first evening lecture.
Cost: $225. Fee includes air fills, special archaeology equipment |
